The whole operation has a Mukherjee touch. In the BJP, there were loud speculations of Ministerial posts for three CPI MPs, one Cabinet and two MoS. They cite how the late Indrajit Gupta became Home Minister even while the other Left parties refused the lure. Then Mukherjee quickly moved to mobilise the UPA partners. Lalu Yadav, reform lobby’s new management guru, went round 10 Janpath and PMO with his 23 MPs professing support in that hour of crisis.

The CPI(M) is not apologetic about its liaison with the BJP and others. They had to drop the House resolution idea when it became obvious that the Congress was not ready for unanimous move. Now if the PM’s statement leaves loopholes facilitating surrender to the US “dictates”, the Left will continue its fight with renewed vigour, with or without CPI. Today’s Left, the CPI(M) argues, is strong enough to fight the common causes with even devils without compromising its own basic position. Just because the BJP also supported a parliamentary resolution does not make the Left “communal”, they argue.

When the Left decided to support the UPA government from outside, it was feared that the political compromise would make its position untenable in Kerala, West Bengal and Tripura where they come in direct contest with the Congress. They attribute their success in May last to what they call political honesty. The Left, they argue, will not become fundamentalist if they opposed the US interventions in Iraq or Iran simply because the Islamic fundamentalists also hold similar views but for different reasons. If the BJP says it is day, we need not call it night, a Left leader said.

The Left sees a difference between convergence of ideas and joining hand with such fundamentalist or communal forces. The CPI(M) does not see any thing wrong in keeping liaison with the BJP representatives on the limited issues like opposing the nuclear deal. For, the House includes the Opposition. This had happened last week in the case of the Lebanon resolution and earlier on Iraq resolution. If the BJP reverts to the Swadeshi economic line, as is speculated, there will be more such convergences. Before the Advani rath yatra, the Left had floor coordination with the BJP. In mid-80s, the Left trade unions and the BMS had worked on a common platform.

As of now, the PM seems to have won the first round. He has been able to successfully frustrate the moves to commit himself to the nine points informally agreed to by the Left and NDA parties at a time when a top US official is coming for further negotiations. The sense of the House might have virtually foreclosed scope for further last minute concessions to Washington. However, the PM’s triumph can also be another disaster for the Congress in the event of more humiliating surrenders. The resultant public backlash can be far more crippling than the Iran voting.

For, the scenario has been strikingly similar. The PM went on assuring the nation that nothing would be done on Iran issue that would hurt the national pride. And he did just the reverse with the last-minute consent of Sonia Gandhi. In the ensuing Muslim backlash, the Congress lost heavily in all minority areas with the DMK saving the day for the Congress in Tamil Nadu in the Assembly elections in May last.

The PM’s “collusion” with the US against the Islamic world is already a theme song with both Mulayam and Mayawati in UP where elections are due in February. If the PM really goes by the national mood against the nine new concessions, the deal is as good as dead. If he yields to the US pressure, national pride and alleged surrender of sovereignty can be a powerful emotional issue cutting across caste and religious loyalties. The line-up of parties, the BJP-Shiv Sena on the right to the CPI(M) and powerful regional groups such as the TDP, the SP, the JD(U), the Akalis, the BJD is formidable. The cumulative effect of simultaneous campaigns by such parties and groups from independent platforms will have a far more crippling effect on the middle classes whose honeymoon with the PM is already on the wane. tVofsis Humiliatingnicelookingbaregirls En Doktor Humiliating Nice Looking Bare Girls Congress and its humiliating surrenders - Mumbai Livet j q Humiliating Looking Bare zVofsis Humiliatingnicelookingbaregirls En Doktor Humiliating Nice Looking Bare Girls Congress and its humiliating surrenders - Mumbai Liveb n Bare
