If the PM really goes by the national mood against the nine new concessions, the deal is as good as dead. If he yields to the US pressure, national pride and alleged surrender of sovereignty can be a powerful emotional issue cutting across caste and religious loyalties. The line-up of parties, the BJP-Shiv Sena on the right to the CPI(M) and powerful regional groups such as the TDP, the SP, the JD(U), the Akalis, the BJD is formidable.
